Be Careful What You Witch For
So today I was thinking about an old spell I did and I thought it would be a good lesson to blog about. I am a healer and so it hurts me when I see those that I am closest to in pain. My husband is Bipolar as well as having various physical ailments. Several years ago I had the bright idea (I.E. stupid idea) to cast a spell helping to carry his burden of pain when it became too much for him. So I set my alter up, had my various healing herbs and candles and cast my spell. What followed was nothing. Or so I thought it was just another dud spell that didn't work the way I intended it to. Hey it happens to us all.
I worded my spell so that when my DH felt too overwhelmed and unable to go on that I'd "carry the burden". Meaning I'd feel his pain. I knew it probably wasn't the greatest idea I had, but just getting rid of his pain wasn't working. DH was convinced that the pain isn't suppose to go away and he's somehow meant to suffer. So I was desperate to help.
Over the weeks nothing happened and all was relatively normal. Then I noticed I began to get a little depressed. It was only for an hour or two and also coincided with DH first saying his head was too much, and then his moods leveling out and he'd mention he felt almost normal. During this time I'd become depressed, mad, and downright crazy. I didn't connect the two (Honestly I forgot about the spell by this time) till DH and I had our one and only fight that almost broke us up. Then I finally connected the dots I could see how subtle the spell was and how well it actually worked.
After explaining to my husband about the spell and why my head went a bit freaky, he insisted I reverse the spell and never do healing work for him again. I broke my cardinal rule. Never attempt a healing without permission, and never keep anyone's pain.
But if I had it all to do over again, I'd repeat my mistakes. Yes it almost cost me my marriage and made me seriously insane for awhile. But it also taught me a lot about energy healing and about what my husband feels every single day. I have more patience and empathy for him now that I know what it means when he says he's angry for no reason. That was a foreign concept to me before the spell.
So my lesson for today. Don't be afraid to make mistakes as long as you learn something from them. And its probably not a good idea to forget you cast for something, even if you think it didn't work. A week, or a month, or even a year later you might be pleasantly (or not so pleasantly) surprised.

Pray For a Miracle
Today I came across this story about a couple who relied on faith to heal their 17 year old son. First I'd like to say there is nothing wrong with seeking healing from the Divine. Matter of fact I encourage it! But only relying on the Divine to intercede to solve a problem is (IMO) foolish. Especially when that problem can be solved easily by modern medicine. If Faith is all the hope you have left, by all means pray harder than you ever have before. But it shouldn't be your only course of action.
The Divine asks us to do the "work". (IE Take action to bring about the desired result). That would mean, GO TO THE DOCTOR. The Divine and Modern medicine can and often do work together.
Years ago I was searching for a car in my price range. We stopped at a place that had 10 or so used cars. Obviously it was a mom and pop kind of business. We gave them our price range (Which was really low) and they said they couldn't help us. Their advice, go to church and pray for a car.
What, was God going to throw down a car in our driveway if we prayed hard enough? After a few laughs and explaining that we are Pagan and don't believe God will just solve all our problems, we left and eventually found the car we could afford. But it took WORK. When it was meant to be, I picked up a newspaper a coworker had left sitting in the cafeteria. In it I found the perfect car for a great price. It was actually a little cheaper than we were looking for.
*Do you believe those who solely rely on faith to heal and never seek help from a medical professional should be prosecuted, as in this story's case?
*Do you believe you can pray and things will just be handed to you?

PBP: Illness
Prompt: Illness
With me catching some crazy weird cold this week, sickness has been on the mind....
How do you deal with illness?
Does being sick hinder your magic work?
Do you employ magic to make yourself healthy again?
What about others? Do you work magic to heal other people?
~Magickal Graphics~
Thankfully I'm not often sick. Sometimes I think I might need people from the best nursing schools to help
me. But I use a combination of modern medicine and herbal medicine. Usually an illness makes my energy and focus decline so I don't attempt anything major. What I do use is visualization. If I can I'll sit and meditate and visualize the illness leaving my body and my aura cleansing. I have some success with this, all depending on how well I can focus.
When others are sick I approach the same way as well. A combination of modern, herbal and energy work. As a healer I don't heal others unless asked. I feel its an invasion of privacy. But if asked yes I will do an energy healing.

Love & Light for All Going Through A Hard Time
Lately there has been a lot going with student shootings at Chardon, Ohio High School and then the tornado's that hit in the Midwest, US. A lot of people are suffering today so I just want to take a moment to send loving energy to those people missing their loved ones and dealing with the aftermath of disaster.
So to all who are suffering, here is some healing energy for you.
Blessings, Love, and Light my brothers and sisters.

PBP: Animal Totems
Pagan Blog Prompt asks:
Animals can teach us a lot about ourselves and the world around us....
Do you have a totem animal? What is it teaching you?
What have the animals taught you in the past?
I really can't believe I've never wrote a post on animal totems before! Great blog prompt PBP! Usually when meditating the animals that most often come to me are horses, snakes, deer, wolf, and some kind of feline (Domestic or Feral). Each has their own individual lesson for me.
Horses, I've written about them recently. They represent freedom. I have a history of being a little too reserved. They remind me to let go and have a little fun horsing around sometimes.
Snakes, I've always been afraid of. So they represent conquering my fear and transformation. I'm a person who hates change, so when snake enters my life I know I just have to suck it up and get over it!
Deer is my husbands totem more than mine. But to me deer represents abundance, grace, beauty and love. When deer enter my life it's a reminder to look around and see the beauty in my life. With our lives going by so fast, sometimes we forget to appreciate the little things and give thanks for the abundance in our life.
Wolf, also another totem of my husbands. Wolf represents family togetherness and loyalty to me. I know if a wolf enters my life I can have trust in his wisdom.
Felines represent intuition and deity. They are a very feminine totem that gives off a sexual energy to represent the power of ones self. Felines are associated with moon power and passion.
What have the animals taught you in the past?
Butterfly
Though I do not consider them a totem, butterflies taught me a wonderful lesson as a child that I will never forget. If you notice the banner on my blog, I recently changed it and added a butterfly background. This is to remind me of the lesson of butterflies.
When I was a child (maybe 5 or 6 years old) I was playing with my best friend, Joey, when we saw a butterfly struggling to fly. It was obviously about to die. It landed hard on the ground and when we went to investigate, we saw that its wings were torn. I picked the butterfly up and though it was still alive, it wouldn't be for long. So Joey and I cupped our hands over it, and we sent energy to it. We didn't know what we were doing at the time. We just thought we were praying for it to live. I don't remember what I said but it was to the effect of "Deity, help me to heal this wounded creature." (I was always a a bit magickal even as a witch-let. *wink*) So after our prayer I put it in a safe place to live or die as the Gods willed it. Within about 45 minutes we saw the same butterfly flying just in front of us. It dipped and rose for a few minutes just staying in the same place. I felt it was thanking us. I said allowed, "Your welcome" and it flew off.
The butterfly taught me that I could do great things. It taught me magick is real and all it takes is the love I had in my heart for the most gentlest of creatures. How many kids wouldn't have noticed a butterfly dying? Or worst yet, notice and wouldn't have cared? When I began my Pagan path, I didn't need someone to tell me spells work, because I had already lived it.

Needing Prayers & Good Wishes
~Magickal Graphics~
Please light your candles and say a prayer for my mother. This Wednesday my mother had a mild heart attack. She was air lifted to Lexington where they put a stint in her heart. She's in ICU right now. I don't know much more than that right now, but she is awake and doing OK at the moment. Please send her healing vibes.
Thank you!
