Change Comes With Lessons

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;
it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to every one's amazement he
quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing.
He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.

Live simply and appreciate what you have.

Give more.

Expect less


NOW ............

Enough of that crap . . The donkey later came back,
and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him.
The gash from the bite got infected and
the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.
They buried him in the well.

MORAL FROM TODAY'S LESSON:

When you do something wrong and try to cover
your ass, it always comes back to bite you.

A blogger on Unleashed Diva Living Out Loud has posted a daily OM that I really like.

Each day offers us an opportunity to renew our resolve to the universe that we are ready for change.

 This past year has been a hard one for me and my family. It hasn't passed without learning a few hard lessons. So here are the lessons I've learned that I hope has prepared us for change and a better future.

  1. A Savings account is a must! I've preached this before but I let my DH decide that we just couldn't keep one. To be fair, we squandered a lot of money on games and take out food. DH has this need to spend money to be happy and I hate to cook. Its basic Bipolar and lazy behavior. Even now he's wanting to spend $60 for a game when we can't afford it. I keep saying no, but usually (and because he's the one working) he gets his way. I really need to stress to him that this can't happen anymore. When he lost his job we couldn't even pay for THAT months rent let alone another month, which would have been useful for planning on what we were going to do. Making snap decisions when it involves your family's living and job situation proved to be a bad mistake. In the future we need to be more solvent. 
  2. Clean up our credit. This I was already trying to do. But we have our work cut out for us now. A year of not paying being able to pay bills tends to do that to you. 
  3. Become more active. We led a very sedentary and lazy lifestyle before. This needs to change not only for my happiness but for all of our health. We use to do a lot together as a family. Somewhere along the way it became too much to go do stuff. We became bored with everything. Becoming more active will help us bond more as a family and lead a healthier lifestyle.
  4. Lead a more spiritual life. When my DD was little I hated to visit the local coven because I didn't want to be that mom always chasing around the child and never having any fun. Even if we don't go to groups now, we need to be more spiritual at home. I do most of the spiritual work, and that becomes exhausting. I need DH to step it up and help out. I don't want to feel like I'm forcing DH to do a full moon ritual.
My main goal right now is to save money and move out of MIL's home. This is an absolute must for my sanity and happiness. We can't do that without saving money. So, here is my resolve. I am ready to do what I must to make my goals happen. I am ready to spend thriftily, to make more homemade meals instead of wasting money on take out like we did before. To make an effort to lead a more spiritual life daily, and to help my DH do the same.

Early Morning Thoughts

So here it is at 7:30 on a Saturday morning with no plans because we have no money to do anything. Doesn't that suck?! I know I've ignored my blog all week. Its not that I've forgotten or been busy. I just have felt a disconnect with the world this week. I think its because I haven't been visiting my Pagan friends, doing anything witchy, and I haven't even been crafty. I did bake a pie the other day which made me a little happy. I poured myself into cooking 4 homemade healthy meals this week. I went all out and everyone was happy with what I made. Friday was a hot dogs and leftovers day. What can I say, this heat makes me feel a bit lazy!

Dh's job is going well. He seems to be happy other than it not being a full time job. Who knows maybe once he has more experience they'll give him more hours. I hope so because MIL is driving me batty yet again. I won't go into details though since I don't wish for this post to be a rant.

Little man had a doctors appointment yesterday. His doctor must think I'm a complete idiot or something. I may be on public assistance, but that doesn't mean I'm inept or don't know how to raise a child. He actually asked me if I had baby proofed the house. Well duh! I do have a 10 yr old I managed to keep safe from sticking her fingers in light sockets. I think I got it covered doc.
Anyway, little man got two vaccines, weighed 24 lbs and 30 inches long. Honestly I thought he weighed more than that. He certainly feels like he weighs more than that!

DD joined a summer reading program, and I've been reading more myself. I think part of my problem is that I am not doing any hobby right now. Crochet is kind of a winter thing for me. It just gets too hot handling all that yarn in warm weather.

The Web We Weave

Spider totems bring us a message of mystery, power, and growth. The spider's web is a symbol for how we weave our own life. Each choice takes us in a direction that is far-reaching with consequences beyond our perception at the time decisions are made.

In December of last year I made the decision to visit the dentist to talk about my options to fix my teeth. The dentist took a look and decided there wasn't much to save. Its the answer I thought I'd hear but I didn't know if I was quite ready for dentures. I went ahead and made the appointment to have my teeth pulled. The appointment was 6 months away, so that was plenty of time to come to terms with my impending change.

Tonight is the last night I will have my natural teeth. At 9am I have my appointment to pull all my teeth. In a way, I morn their loss. Even though they are broken, yellowed and just plain ugly, they are still mine and its hard to let go for someone like me who hates change. There is also the unknown. The pain I don't worry much about. But will I like having dentures? I have a few people in my life who have them. An old high school friend tells me its the best thing she ever did. Yet my own mother got them and doesn't wear them because they don't fit her right. My step-father-in-law also has dentures and I never even knew it until he told me one day. So these various people in my life gives me a diverse example of what can happen. Only time will tell if I've made the right decision for me.

This spider was waiting for me today on our lamp in the yard. She reminds me that each decision has a consequence. Each web I weave effects myself - hopefully in a positive way.

For many years now I knew one day I'd move back to Ohio. But yet I also dreamed there would be a period of death. I now think that the dream was a premonition. Not of physical death but a major change. In this dream I changed not only my career and home, but my physical appearance as well. In the dream my teeth were beautiful and I lost weight. I was successful and happy.

Perhaps this decision is one more step toward that reality.

I took a picture of me smiling tonight. Its the first I've taken that I didn't immediately erase. I never smile on purpose because of my teeth. I'll be extremely happy when I don't have to worry about someone recoiling in horror when I smile. I won't post it today though. I want that after picture before I share.

For now I'll just thank Grandmother spider for bringing this message of change, and say Blessed Be.

Up and Down on this Rollercoaster called Life

Pain is a good thing right? It means your still alive at least. Today has been a great and a not so great day. Around noon I made lunch. My favorite, macaroni and cheese. The kind with the powdered cheese. You know the really crappy stuff. For some reason I was craving it with lots of butter. Shortly thereafter, I began to have a toothache. You know it really sucks when you're trying to entertain a toddler and your teeth hurt. Especially when that toddler loves to smack you in the face.

I make it a few hours with mild pain before my whole left side of my face began to hurt. It was so bad it radiated to my left eye and ear. I was gargling with antiseptic mouth wash. If I wasn't alone with Wyatt I think I would have drowned myself in whiskey just to reach oblivion. Thankfully my MIL and FIL didn't go to work today. They came home at 3pm and at 4 I made my FIL take me to urgent care where they gave me some pain meds for the time being. Now its just a dull ache. On June 7th I have my surgery to remove all my teeth and then get dentures. I really really want June 7th to hurry up and get here. I am afraid of surgery, and morn the loss of all my teeth. But its for the best.

On happier news, Dh has a job! On Wednesday he goes for orientation to be hired full time with Goodwill. The hours are minimal and the pay sucks, but at least its a job. Maybe we are finally pulling ourselves out of this hole. One can only hope!

Outside the Box

So today my very dear friend Linda from Moonstruck is going to be doing a Pagan's Tonight talk radio interview. She posted about it today on her FB feed. I'm so happy for her! I can't wait to hear it. If you'd like to tune in, it starts at 10:15 pm.

After checking out Pagan's Tonight I nosed around Blog Talk Radio and found someone doing online readings. So I figured, why not. I was a bit skeptical because everything the reader was saying was full of sunny flowers and roses type messages. We all know life just isn't all positive. But when she got to me she definitely wasn't positive. lol. Well serves me right huh.

My question was of course about our financial and living arrangement. She basically said look out of the box, that she didn't think I'd make any progress until August - September (God I hope not that long!) and that she thought I'd find something in sales.

I'd be horrible at sales! I'm not the salesman type. I'm really not that good of a people person and for that kind of job you have to have a certain kind of charisma I just don't possess.

So not really sure how to take her reading. But I'm hoping she is just very off.

I've been trying to think outside the box this whole time. First with my Gypsy living idea, then trying to get Dh to go back to school, etc etc.. Nothing I suggest or say or do seems to work.

You know what I'd really like to do, travel! All my life I've only ever been a handful of places. I've felt so sheltered my entire life. I'd love that chance to see more of the world.

I don't often talk about my father. He was an ass that left us when I was just 3 yrs old. But he was a truck driver. I remember wondering where he was often when I was a child. I knew he traveled the country. I also tried to get DH to go to a truck driving school here, but he won't do it either. He says he thinks the driving would hurt his back. And I know driving often hurts him so that's nothing knew to me. I often have to drive for him when his back or neck is sore. He has degenerative disk disease, pinched nerves, etc... Sitting for long periods is painful for him. I want to say, get off your ass and do it anyway. But I know that's unfair. After all I couldn't do a job when I was required to walk all day. (I have Plantar Fisciitis Inflammation).

I just want to be taken care of and not feel like I have to be the one to solve all our problems.

Sorry for the ramble today. I don't always mean to get so negative. But this is where I am in my life.

Demons in our Mist

Sabrina over on One Witch's Wonderland did a poll on if Pagan's believe in demons. Her results are that most Pagans do believe in some form of Demon.

Several years ago I met a woman that was constantly saying she saw demons during rituals. She'd step in front of people to "protect" the person if she saw a demon ready to attack.

Unfortunately this story isn't unique. Lots of other people have met this type of person. They are obsessed with demons and trying to protect the ones they love.

I think those who say they constantly see demons are honestly misguided. Maybe they are afraid of spirits and believe all spirits are inherently evil. This is not accurate.

What are Demons

Please remember this is just my opinion, and I'm certainly no authority and am not trying to change anyone's views.

To me Demons are spirits who have lost their way. There is a natural cycle for a spirit. They live their life, die, and are reborn again. This cycle repeats until hopefully they achieve spiritual enlightenment. But what happens if the spirit is unable to achieve spiritual enlightenment?  For whatever reason, I believe there are some spirits who are not able to achieve any kind of spiritual enlightenment due to their own faults. So in their own misguided way they become Demons with their own agenda.

I don't believe there is a horde of demons led by an ultimate evil bent on the destruction of man kind. I don't believe there is a demon lurking around every street corner.

I do believe there are many spirits, and not all of them are ready to accept a spiritual existence.

Turning the Tide

So I have some interesting news. Today I received a letter stating we are being sanctioned. Despite the fact that DH did what our case worker told him to do, we will not receive TANF for a month. That sucks, because I know DH has been working his ass off. We can protest it, which we will, but the case worker wasn't there today so it will have to wait till Monday.

But that may not matter since I also had a job offer not 30 minutes after reading the letter. I go for a drug test and orientation today. I'll be basically the office help. Not sure what else because the lady was pretty vague on the job description. But I hope this is another step in turning the tide. We need this change, though the momma in me screams NO because I don't want to leave my sons side. I know he's going to have a rough time transitioning and if I'm being honest so will I.

How was everyone's Imbolc? I bet your just as eager as I to see the coming Spring. I spent the day crocheting a little bag for my daughter. Her school makes Valentines boxes but they are so generic. She wanted something special so I decided a little white hand bag with a cute red heart would be perfect for all her Valentines cards. I'm not sure if her teacher will allow her to use it in school, but she can transfer them to the bag after she's out of school. Or she can use the bag for something else. Its very cute but unfortunately the batteries in my mouse died so I stole a battery out of my camera. I have some other creations I've yet to photograph as well I'd like to share.

I haven't felt like writing much lately. And at first it was because I had the flu. It's still not all gone but for the most part I feel fine, if not a little tired. So I've come to realize that I'm just in a funk again. It happens once in awhile with my writing. I just feel like I can't be creative at the moment. I still try to open my writing assignment's every day, but within 5 minutes I realize I really am not in the right mind to write and close it. This is one of the reasons I haven't really taken to finishing my novel seriously. I say I want it published, but I know I am probably years away from doing that, if ever. Bottom line is that my writing is still a hobby, and that's OK. But I want it to be so much more. 
The above quotes really speak to me today. I feel stuck in my life. No matter what we've done it's backfired on us. We've yet to find jobs, a place to live, etc. I'm beyond impatient at this point. The pearl quote really speaks to me too because I've had a hard life. One too many kicks gets a girl down, but it's always made me stronger in the end. And if all else fails, just paste a smile on your face, and soon the outward joy you show to the world will become a reality.

Decisions about Life

I've spoke before that I'd like to buy an RV in my "I want to be a Gypsy" post. The problem is DH hasn't been very supportive of the idea. When I ask if he feels it's a good idea he just shrugs and says he doesn't know. So that has made me hesitate to really do anything about it. I don't want to force the issue if it's something he really doesn't want to do or would regret doing. And before anyone suggests I have a heart to heart with him and just ask, I have. And I still get the shrug and an, "I don't know".

So maybe I should just take the hint that it's not something he wants to do? Or maybe, he's just like a leaf blowing in the wind right now and isn't being the "leader" and I need to be? He did give me permission to post the items I'd need to sell on Ebay, but I feel like I might be forcing him to get ride of stuff that means a lot to him. I'd be happy to sell my wedding ring and other jewelry first, but it wouldn't be enough.

I just don't know what to do, but know we need to do something. Everyone is getting tired of living so closely. This isn't going to work for much longer and we've already put in applications for other places to live to no avail.

The Perfect Marriage

Note: The following may ruffle a few feathers. I hope that you can see my words are offered in an attempt to show another way.

Most people will tell you that there is no such thing as a perfect marriage. Their view of marriage is mostly harmonious with a few screaming fits in there somewhere.

I say, if you are screaming at one another then you don't have a perfect marriage. And yes, its possible!

At 16 years old I started dating Lance, my future husband. At 18 we moved out of my mothers house (HE was living with us). On my 19th birthday we were being married. Everyone around us told me I was too young, he was too old (10 yrs difference). That we should wait for me to "live" a little. etc. etc... I believe the "expiration date" on our marriage was somewhere around 5 years according to some people. Here we are 14 years later and going strong.

I say if you scream at your partner and call them names then you don't have respect for them. Therefore the marriage cannot be healthy. Lance and I came from homes where it was common to hear our parents fighting, calling each other names, basically doing everything but physical violence to hurt one another. Then of course there was the "make up" days. This is very hard for children to witness. Some people say its necessary for kids to see so they will know how to deal with conflict. But this is no way to deal with conflict. You deal with conflict by talking and compromise, not screaming and insisting on only one persons view is correct. The power struggle so many couples participate in isn't healthy. Couples should work together, not try to be the top dog in every fight.

Our rules in marriage are simple. Don't be rude. If you wouldn't say it to a stranger, don't say it to your partner. Have respect, tell each other "I love you often". Don't tell the other to go away. Always talk about what we are thinking. Talking does NOT involve raised voices and slamming doors or throwing items. Come up with a solution that is best for the entire family. Don't be a dick just because your having a bad day.

I hope everyone has The Perfect Marriage. But if you don't, perhaps its time to talk with your partner and implement a few ground rules.

A magical recipe.

What better way to embody magick than in the making of bread. I think this is a lost art and its one I'm trying to get back. I think as early as 100 years ago it would be shameful to not know how to make a simple loaf of bread. How many of us have to look up recipes now? I know I did! So today I decided to make bread. Now let me start off by saying I am in no way a perfect baker. I have my issues with bread. Either it doesn't rise, rises too much, is too gooey in the center or crumbles too much. Today's loaf crumbles too much, but at least I can eat it will a little butter or jam. I didn't get a good color on it though unfortunately. I think it could have used a bit more browning, but it was already very hard on the outer layer and I didn't want it to get too much harder.

One cup warm water (Not hot)
1 package active dry yeast
3 tablespoons sugar
Let yeast proof for 10 minutes.



Proof the yeast
 Mix in all-purpose flour till it has a sticky consistency. Should be able to pinch off a piece of dough easily.
Added my flour
Allow dough to rise
 Allow dough to rise (About 2 hours)
Add 1/2 cup of flour and kneed. Add more flour if too sticky

Finished product. As you can see I couldn't wait till I cut into it! Sorry for not taking a picture before I cut it.
 Allow to rise and bake @ 350 degrees for 1 hour. If your like me, you can't wait till you can cut into it. You really should wait till it cools though. And there we have yummy homemade bread! The magick is in the sharing with family. :)

Imaginary Friends May Not Be So Imaginary

I think most of us can think back on our childhood and remember an imaginary friend. If you can't remember, ask your parent(s) and see if they remember you having a special friend no one else could see. A baby is brand new to physical life, but his or her spirit is not brand new. Babies and young children are still connected to the spiritual plane, therefore it is easier for them to see spirits.

Children normally have at least one or two spirits around them. There are many stories where angels are watching over children in many cultures. We call them our Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides, or Saints. In my opinion these are spirits that may be related to you, or just a spirit that needs to do a job before moving on.

As a child I remember I had two spirits. One was an adult and I also had a dog. I don't remember much more than that, but I remember having a lot of fun with them. Over the years, children naturally become more connected to their physical life and eventually loose the ability to see and interact with spirits. A very few will continue to see spirits. These people are called "mediums". For awhile, I ignored the spirits, though I continued to see them. They became scary to me so I just wanted them to go away. As an adult, I learned not to be afraid and how to control my ability.

When my daughter was a toddler our home was heated with oil space heaters. One day she told us that there was a little girl, and she told her never to take daddy's medicine because it could make her sick. We took this to mean the little girl had died by playing with her parents medicine. My daughter also said she was warned to watch the oil heater because it could make a fire. Upon checking the heater we realized it was too close to the curtain and had burned the fabric. We are very thankful for that spirits warning.

So to recap, imaginary friends help our children through their first years of life. They may or may not loose the ability to see and speak with spirits. As parents, I think we can learn a lot about our children by talking about what they do with their imaginary friends. Who knows, perhaps you'll be able to avoid a disaster like my daughters friend helped to do.

Salem's Elemental Meditations: Air

Embrace Air
I've procrastinated in writing my meditation for this element because honestly I'm more of a grounded person. Therefore, an element that in essence is the opposite of grounding isn't one that I work with often.
However I recognize its benefits, so here is my meditation.

Air is all about letting go and allowing yourself to fly above daily limitations. To embrace this element you need to allow yourself to become free of everyday stress.

Air is the force of movement. One cannot stand still in a forceful breeze. Do you ever feel the wind against your skin and feel that God or Goddess has just caressed you? Perhaps you have been caressed. This is the feeling you get when you have embraced this element.

Do you ever feel stuck in one spot in life and just need a push forward? Air is the perfect element to meditate to when you feel at a standstill in life and just need a push forward. So here is how I meditate to air.

There are several ways you can bring the element of air to your meditation. One is to meditate outdoors on a breezy day. Remember when we were meditating with Earth and you meditated under a tree? Watching the leaves sway with the wind while you feel the breeze on your skin is a beautiful and very relaxing way to bring air into your life.

If you are unable to meditate under those conditions, meditate with a feather to represent the wind that allows birds to soar to great heights.

Happy Full Moon!

Its the Harvest moon and that means what seeds we have sown are coming to fruition. So what are your plans for celebrating this time? What are you waiting to come full circle in your life?

In January we began our journey of moving back home to Ohio. We have yet to settle ourselves into our new life. We are still waiting to come full circle. I hope as we enter the harvest time our life will change and settle.

My the Lord & Lady help us find the right job and housing so that we may lead a better life. And may our dog Kota be protected and loved while she is in my mothers care.

Looking for a breakthrough

This year has been nothing but road blocks and dead ends so far. Today we were going to go to Ohio. We applied for housing but need a background check. We wanted to avoid the approximate two weeks it would take to get them done by mail. (We can't use an online service, must come from KY State Police). We wired the money to my mother and she was going to have it done. However it seems you can't get a background check done without our signature. Which is weird since you can get a background check online as long as you have the persons info! See, road blocks. Ok fine, so we were going to go to KY and besides it gave us an excuse to let my mother see the baby. She's been dying to see Wyatt anyway.
Except our car needed to be tagged. We have another car we've been driving but we don't trust it to go all the way to KY. We do (Or did) trust the Lumina. So we tag it and come back home. But noticed the tail lights were not working again. That wasn't unusual. DH has been trying to figure out why they sometimes work and sometimes not. So he messes with it a bit and thinks he's fixed it. I go out to start it while he watches the back to see if they come on. Problem #2. The car doesn't start. WTF! So the trip was canceled and everyone was disappointed. I know there has to be a reason we have so much constraint in our life. I just wish we could hurry up and get our life together again. I know, patience is a virtue. But it wasn't a virtue I inherited. So I'm just a woman looking for a breakthrough!

A message of hope

This is an older meditation I had actually done awhile back. But its a good reminder.

This morning I woke up in a very bad mood. My theme sentence for the day was going to be "I don't wanna". So I lit my candle, burned my sage, and turned on my favorite morning meditation. Excuse me if I do not spell it right. Its a native American morning song I've posted on here before. Its words are Win de ya ho.
Anyway, as I was meditating I was introduced to a goddess of hope. She wasn't all that clear to me. But she was beautiful with dark hair and a loving nature. A nurturer by heart. She was feeding the poor and unhealthy. She showed me people who were in despair. She was spreading hope.
Here is the message for today. When your dreams are shattered, there is always hope. Hopes and dreams sound synonymous, but they are not. Dreams are your goals you are fairly certain are attainable, however high you set them. Hope is when that goal is too high even for you to believe it will happen.
But there are miracles, and there is hope. Don't give up. When intellectually you are certain life has kicked you one too many times, rely on hope to pick you back up.
