The Rose by Bette Midler is a favorite of mine and it makes me think of my mother and grandmother. I remember the day we heard that my grandmother, Minnie Lee Belle Smiley, had died. My mother and I were cleaning the house and one of her brothers showed up at our door to tell us she had died. I never really knew my grandmother, apart of my name is LaBelle, which is after Minnie. I've continued the tradition of having a form of Belle in my daughters name (Sierra Belle) in honor of Minnie. This song always reminds me of the love and sadness felt that day.
