The Power of Magick & Non-Believers

Witchy Comments & Graphics

I ran across this article on About.com titled, "Does Magic Have Power if Someone Doesn't Believe?"

I thought this would be an interesting discussion. My thoughts are that magic is energy. Whether it is positive or negative depends on the person sending it out. Someone who has no belief in deity or magic at all still sends out energy. So I think this is evidence that yes, magick still has power over those who are non-believers and that energy does return to them.

However, I do believe because they've closed themselves off to the possibility of magick, that they've also created a barrier that "keeps out" to some extent, positive and negative energy. So basically they've made it harder for the energy flowing to them to manifest a change in their life.

What do you believe? Does magick hold power for non-believers?

I think all the things we choose not to believe in affect our lives a bit less... sometimes, not at all.

I like the way you think. ;)
I've spent a lot of time researching the subject of Remote Influence, Psi Influence, Sub Conscious and Collective Unconscious and from this I'm convinced that there is a collaboration of belief systems yours and the person you are trying to influence with magic. While their belief system may not be open to Magic when the person who is trying to influence them is using Magic they may still be open to similar effects through different mechanisms into the same belief system. If one of your requirements (on a sub conscious level) is that you are using magic and your belief system requires the other person to also be open to being influenced by magic then you may be ineffective at influencing that person or situation at a distance. If they believe in magic and they put up some sort of protective white light again if you also practice similar protection mechanisms and believe that protective white light will protect you against magic then its unlikely that you will be able to affect them. On the other hand if you reframe it as distance influence or distance hypnosis or guided visualization inside the collective bio information field then you are no longer working on their belief system relative to magic but working on their belief system relative to the idea that they could be influenced and using ideations and visualizations that their subconscious doesn't reject you can have similar effects. Some psychics now refer to themselves as mentalists rather then psychics I believe this is because people are more open to being influenced by a mentalist then a psychic. Ultimately belief systems are key but there are always ways around a target belief system assuming that you have other ways or techniques that can be employed then the ones that they are defending against inside of their own personal belief systems.

Thanks for sharing your perspective.
Magic is the power of thoughts. We all have thoughts and use this thought magic in different ways to achieve what we want. Some call it positive thoughts, believe in a higher power but us witches call it magic so I think it works for everyone just in different ways.

It's amazing how many names we have for the same concepts isn't it.
Negative energy and black magick will always find it's way back to the creator of the same, leaving the target free
from harm. So, always be positive towards others and do not send out negative energy or work black magick.
